NOISE FACE LANDSCAPE
The long-awaited new album from VIDEOTAPEMUSIC, the Tokyo producer who builds music from old VHS tapes. It includes a version of the Korean folk song "Heung Taryeong" sung by Gyeonggi minyo singer Lee Heemoon.
Desert Fairy Princess
A spiritual jazz classic and the only solo album by flautist Adele Sebastian, whose supple playing brims with joy and vitality. She was a key member of Horace Tapscott's Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra (heard on Live at I.U.C.C.) before her death from illness in 1983 at just 27.
AfroMagic Vol.2
The second volume of DJ Borovich's Afromagic series digs up African rare groove from 1977-1986, spanning afro disco, funk, boogie, reggae and proto-electro, with cuts from Geraldo Pino, Jake Sollo and Eji Oyewole. Hypnotic, repetitive rhythms as a dancefloor language, with every track's BPM printed on the sleeve and labels for DJs. Limited matte sleeve with spot-UV finish.
Born In The Echoes
The Chemical Brothers' eighth album, with guest turns from Q-Tip, Beck and St. Vincent, returns as a very limited white marble 2LP pressing.
Conference Of The Birds
Bassist Dave Holland's ECM landmark, a quartet with reedmen Sam Rivers and Anthony Braxton and drummer Barry Altschul that balances freedom and structure beautifully.
Inheritance
A solo outing from Art Ensemble of Chicago reedman Joseph Jarman, recorded in New York in late 1983 and released by Japan's Baybridge label.
Fluxus Anthology
A collection of Fluxus music and sound events edited by Maurizio Nannucci, featuring John Cage, Joseph Beuys, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, La Monte Young and more from the movement.
The Complete Columbia Recordings (1955-1961)
The legendary 1955-1961 recordings of two of jazz's giants, reissued for their shared centenary, tracing modern jazz's shift from hard bop to modal. Three editions: a 2LP highlights set (its first time on vinyl), the 6CD box recreating the 2000 edition with a 112-page book, and a 9LP hardcover box of all 58 recordings cut from the original analog masters by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, with a 64-page 12-inch book.
Hi Scores (30th Anniversary)
One of Boards of Canada's first widely released works, the six-track 1996 Skam Records EP, reissued for its 30th anniversary. Warm analog synths, hazy melodies and shifting beats with a worn-VHS nostalgia; "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" and "Everything You Do Is A Balloon" remain classics. The vinyl now comes in a gatefold with four 12-inch posters.
Jazz Sabbath
What if Black Sabbath's metal classics had started life as jazz? This British piano trio, led by Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne keyboardist Adam Wakeman, even invented a backstory claiming they formed in 1968 and had their songs "borrowed" by Sabbath. Piano, bass and drums dress "Iron Man", "Evil Woman" and "Children of the Grave" in Bill Evans Trio-style swing and improvisation.
Dopamine Chamber
Dublin five-piece Fontaines D.C.'s fifth album, their second for XL, produced by James Ford. Lead single "Marianne" got a video from Dave Meyers, director of Kendrick Lamar's "HUMBLE." and Travis Scott's "SICKO MODE".
Zodu Were
Zouratié Koné, from a Burkinabé griot family and a player and builder of kora and ngoni, teams with Brussels producer soFa elsewhere (as The Astral Synth Transmitters) to set West African strings and voice inside dubby synths and electronic rhythms, somewhere between ancient tradition and the future. Out on Switzerland's Bongo Joe Records.
Yes, Armenia had City Pop too: light funk grooves, warm synths and nostalgic melodies with an uncanny kinship to Japan's bubble-era sound. Licensed from the archive of Public Radio of Armenia and restored by Osiris Studio from the original broadcast reel-to-reel tapes, this 2LP gathers 16 late-Soviet City Pop tracks, 12 of them on physical format for the first time. Standout: "Your name I utter with awe", breezy on the surface with a bittersweet sense that the glamour was only a dream.
