Blues Breakers
The 1966 British blues-rock landmark, listed among Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums. Eric Clapton reading a Beano comic on the cover earned it the nickname "the Beano Album" and one of rock's most recognizable sleeves. This 2023 180g reissue faithfully reproduces the original UK Decca mono mix and artwork — thick, ferocious guitar, exactly as it sounded in 1966.
A New Cycle
German hip-hop producer Sepalot kept asking how music built from samples, drum machines and electronics could become a real live performance. His answer: take the beats to the stage with a live jazz quartet. Electronic grooves over a fat low end, hazy atmospherics and jazz improvisation — a natural fit for fans of Jazzanova and The Cinematic Orchestra.
Love Is In The Shit (愛在屎邊邊)
Chinese experimental artist otay:onii — the first ever triennium artist-in-residence at Roadburn — fuses dark trip-hop rhythms, heavy low end, industrial noise and theatrical vocals that swing from hush to sudden eruption. Mixed by Seth Manchester and mastered by Stefan Betke (Pole), this is the Asia-only vinyl edition from France's WV Sorcerer Productions.
Love In C Minor (50th Anniversary Edition)
French disco king Cerrone's 1976 solo debut. The 16-minute title track — pounding kick drum, sultry female vocals — was rejected by every French label, so he released it himself. A misshipped box of records landed in New York, where radio and club DJs seized on it and turned it into a disco-era classic. Because Music's 50th-anniversary edition is restored from the original tapes with the original cover.
you and me
From Belgian label Stroom — the first pressing sold out instantly, now back as a 180g repress. Producer Marija Rasa (emer) and singer Ugnė Uma turn dreams, memories and everyday feelings into songs with a touch of Björk and FKA twigs' quirk and the hazy languor of 90s trip-hop. Airy vocals over delicate, ambiguous electronics — a summer-evening record about intimacy and distance.
Rubber Soul (Special Edition)
The half-speed-mastered special edition of The Beatles' Rubber Soul sold out on arrival and is going scarce abroad; restock lands in November in 1LP, 2LP, and a 5LP + 7" box set with booklet.
Somewhere Else Entirely
The duo of German folk singer-songwriter Henny Herz — a voice as soft and beguiling as Feist's — and drummer-producer Nicholas Stampf, blending warm indie folk with neo-soul grooves and delicate modular synths. Their debut was born on the Baltic coast: from the strings-and-electronics weave of "Earthbound" to the warm swell of "Fisher Poetry Club," 13 songs that feel like a slow drive along a sunlit shoreline.
Animative
Saxophonist, keyboardist and synth player Josh Johnson — member of Jeff Parker's ETA IVtet, co-founder of SML, and producer of Flea's solo album Honora this year. His third solo album runs the sax through harmonizer, sampler and drum machine, shifting intervals mid-performance so harmonies coil and spiral, even turning the horn into percussion or organ. Echoes of Sam Gendel, but more focused on improvisation meeting electronics. A joint International Anthem / Nonesuch release.
Chicago creative-music fixture Damon Locks teams with Black chamber quartet D-Composed (two violins, viola, cello), adding samples and spoken word for a dark, weary atmosphere. Recorded at The Land School, a former South Side elementary school turned arts space by Theaster Gates' Rebuild Foundation. Six pieces move from graceful harmony into dissonance, anxiety and tension, answering the Black present through "hope, anger, protest and resistance." On International Anthem.
