Zed
Cro-Magnon drummer Shigetoshi Otake convenes a supergroup of Japanese heavyweights as Gemini for their debut album Zed. It fuses 70s jazz and soul, thick hip-hop groove, smoky reggae dub and South American percussion, and reinvents Joe Henderson's "Recorda-Me" as feral, spiritual Afro-Cuban jazz-funk. The limited vinyl was cut from analog masters by noted engineer Yasuji Okuda.
Timeless
Hu Vibrational is the project of hand-drummer and percussionist Adam Rudolph, whose sound he calls "Boonghee": organic percussion dance music blending African rhythm, free jazz, hip-hop and kosmische. This fifth volume enlists Norwegian sound-guitarist Eivind Aarset alongside sitar and hand-drum guests, weaving in richer cultural color. Just 200 copies pressed worldwide.
The Black Parade
My Chemical Romance's 2006 concept masterpiece The Black Parade gets a limited colored-vinyl edition. A rock opera built around a "death parade," it pushed emo to a grand, theatrical peak and became scripture for a whole generation's youth. Out 10/23.
Adventure Time: Distant Lands - BMO's Mixtape (Gilligan Moss Mix)
A remix album for BMO's ball from Adventure Time: Distant Lands, reworked by Gilligan Moss into 11 rhythm-packed remixes of everyone's favorite Adventure Time songs. Cover art hand-drawn by Jesse Balmer, with a special spot-gloss sleeve. Out 3/5/2027.
Worst Christmas Ever!
Sufjan Stevens's holiday compilation Worst Christmas Ever! distills 15 favorites from his hundred-plus Christmas recordings across Songs for Christmas and Silver & Gold, paired with "On This Christmas (It Only Gets Better)," his first new Christmas song in nearly fifteen years. Red vinyl, out 11/6.
Pale Saints mastermind Ian Masters joins Italian neo-classical composer Stefano Guzzetti as Galactic Embrace for this dreamlike debut, six years in the making. Pressed in a punishing edition of just 100 vinyl in Japan last year, it now arrives on CD via Glass Modern. Guzzetti's delicate modern-classical string writing wraps around Masters' gauzy, otherworldly voice and vintage 4AD ether, with string and orchestral reworkings of several favorites.
