Spiral Code
Improvising trio archeus, long active in the deep underground of Japanese music, follow 2023's Kusōzu: Nine Death Stages with another release on An'archives. Members Keiko Higuchi, Shizuo Uchida and TOMO weave voice, drums, percussion, trombone, four-string instrument and hurdy-gurdy into an uncategorisable vocabulary — a record that keeps mutating within its improvisation, drifting along the border of noise and silence.
不体失創造
Two-piece la scène, quietly active in Japan's underground for nearly a decade, pairs vocalist-bassist Saya with guitarist Eiji. Futaishitsu Souzou collects three long-form pieces that continue their minimal, unadorned approach, drifting slowly between psychedelic rock, acid folk and slowcore. Among them, "Reiyou" was written in mourning after the passing of the band's friend Gazelle — a slow-burning, unforgettable ache.
Foxbase Alpha
Thirty-five years on, still a perfect love letter to London, pop history and club culture. Saint Etienne's classic 1991 debut effortlessly weaves house beats, ambient atmospheres and sharp songcraft into the very air of the city. Featuring the signature "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" (a Neil Young cover) and "Nothing Can Stop Us." Reissued on white vinyl for its 35th anniversary.
Jaco Pastorius
The eternal bass genius Jaco Pastorius pushed the fretless bass to its peak and, within Weather Report, redefined the role of the bassist in jazz-fusion. He was just 24 when he cut this self-titled debut and dead at 35, yet the record remains a template for the players who followed — with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and other jazz greats guesting. A high-quality Music On Vinyl reissue.
Airplane Mode
James Blunt's eighth studio album, Airplane Mode, continues his signature '90s storytelling style. The two tracks released so far preview the album's direction, and Blunt himself calls it the finest work he's made in the past twenty years.
Toxicity
System of a Down's classic Toxicity turns 25 with a special anniversary edition. Alongside the original album comes a 7-inch of "Johnny" — a track originally tucked away as a bonus on a rare 2001 pressing — with an etched B-side and an included poster. Essential for any metal fan.
A holy grail among J-Jazz collectors: originally pressed in just 100 private copies by the indie Smile label in 1976 and given to friends and family. Trumpeter Hideto Sasaki and pianist Toshiyuki Sekine deliver an all-acoustic hard bop gem, now officially reissued as a double LP for the first time in BBE Music's authoritative J-Jazz Masterclass series with Sekine's blessing. On the standout "Soultrane," the trumpet sheds its edge into smoke-soft muted tones — the album's most quietly devastating homage to Coltrane.
