Seasons/Toward

Toru Takemitsu's percussion works, containing 'Seasons' and 'Toward,' composed for the vast sonic Space Theatre at the Steel Pavilion of Expo '70 in Osaka. 'Seasons' is notated not with conventional scores but with graphic symbols and abstract instructions, shifting with each performer's interpretation — a quasi-improvisational avant-garde experiment employing sculptor François Baschet's handmade sound sculptures and ethnic instruments.

Toshi Tsuchitori (土取利行) — Ajagara
Free Improvisation / Solo Percussion 1980

Toshi Tsuchitori (土取利行)

Ajagara

An early solo recording by Toshi Tsuchitori. Following his 1978 debut Drumythm (on America's D.Y.M Records) and the voice-focused Breath, Ajagara turns to the raw essence of percussion. Though early in his career, it already reveals his pursuit of a more primal texture and the breath of life itself.
