岡田拓郎 (Takuro Okada) — Konoma
Jazz / Spiritual / Experimental 2025

岡田拓郎 (Takuro Okada)

Konoma

via Tokyo Buy Buy Diary View post →

One of the most acclaimed Japanese records of last year from guitarist Takuro Okada. Long steeped in African-American music, he refines it here into a language of his own, joined by a new generation of players — Kei Matsumaru, Sae Ikeda (maya ongaku), Yuma Koda, Marty Holoubek, Shun Ishiwaka — for a sound both supple and grounded. Alongside six originals it reimagines Jan Garbarek's 'Nefertite' and Hiromasa Suzuki's 'Love', letting jazz, spiritual music and his own voice meet.

Still Water

A new 7-inch from Takuro Okada that finds yet another frontier. The A-side 'Still Water' features maya ongaku's Sae Ikeda on flute, its unhurried breath weaving through water-like guitar into spacious, meditative sound; the B-side 'Dohman Sehman' continues the thread of Konoma with Ethio-jazz melody over library-music funk. Originally sold only through Narumi Kojima's TOKA label, it now arrives officially for Japan's Record Day.
