Toshimaru Nakamura (中村としまる)

No-Input Mixing Board, Early Years

via Tokyo Buy Buy Diary View post →

A key figure in Japanese improvised music, Toshimaru Nakamura has since 1997 developed his signature "No-Input Mixing Board" technique — feeding no external source into the mixer and generating sound purely from its internal feedback, circuitry and noise. This P-VINE collection gathers formative recordings hand-picked by the artist himself, faint noise surfacing like tinnitus and insect song in near-silence — a personal history written in noise.

Kawabe Moto (川辺素) — 行方不明
Indie / Alternative 2026

Kawabe Moto (川辺素)

行方不明

The first solo album from mitsume frontman Moto Kawabe, and his first recorded with a full band. It sketches emotions that slowly shift shape over time and the small moments that make you stop in daily life; opener "Alien no Koi" drifts with familiar melancholy, its swaying guitar and voice as beguiling as ever, keeping mitsume's light, supple touch. Now issued on vinyl.

Frank Ocean — Channel Orange
R&B / Soul 2012

Frank Ocean

Channel Orange

Frank Ocean's official 2012 debut studio album and a watershed for modern R&B. From the falsetto confession of "Thinkin Bout You" to the near-ten-minute epic "Pyramids" and the André 3000-featuring "Pink Matter," it drapes love, wealth and loss in hazy, languid sound. This Def Jam CD returns to stock in September.

Hip-Hop / R&B 2026

Anderson .Paak & Cordae

Heavy Is The Crown

The first full collaborative album from nine-time Grammy winner Anderson .Paak and Grammy-nominated rapper Cordae plays like a loose hangout between friends while taking on serious questions at its core. Less a calculated commercial pairing than a record about brotherhood, family, and how each brings out the other's laughter, raps and creativity.

Surprise Chef — Frogs In A Pond
Cinematic Soul / Instrumental Funk / Jazz 2026

Surprise Chef

Frogs In A Pond

Melbourne five-piece Surprise Chef return with a new record. Steeped in '70s soul, they're known for cinematic, mood-drenched instrumental jazz-funk and an almost obsessive devotion to recording — cutting a single song thirty or forty times to find the right take. The new album draws on late-'60s to early-'70s European film-score composers; just listening lets a whole scene unfold in the mind.
