KASAI

〽 (Iori-ten)

via Tokyo Buy Buy Diary View post →

KASAI borrows the idea of 'min'yō' (folk song) to write a set of contemporary work songs. Built around the voice, tracks like 'Shin Jiyū-bushi' drive on taiko rhythms and labor chants, with Tokyo artist Clark Naito trading verses and lyrics taking aim at neoliberalism and privatized public services. A care worker, garbage collector and amateur farmer, KASAI turns everyday labor into a folk music for our time. On EM Records.
