Founded in 1974, Geinoh Yamashirogumi gathered teachers, journalists, engineers and students under the leadership of Shoji Yamashiro — a molecular biologist, life scientist, acoustician and cultural researcher with no formal music training. The group studies and re-renders folk music from around the world, and Ecophony Rinne weaves Bulgarian choirs, Balinese gamelan, African field recordings, Buddhist chant and electronics into a sweeping work that moves across ages. Long out of print, now reissued with half-speed mastering.

An Afrobeat legend produced by Fela Kuti, who also adds keyboards to the title track. The sole solo album by Afrika 70 saxophonist Lekan Animashaun, recorded in 1977 amid Nigeria's military crackdown as a direct response to the head of state's speech telling Black people to keep a 'low profile.' Cut in '77 but only released by Kalakuta in 1995, now reissued by Strut Records and remastered by The Carvery.

Dream Pop / Shoegaze 2026

Pami

not yet / covent garden

Thai dream pop darling Pami, known for her sweet, melancholy voice, returns with a blue vinyl 7-inch pulling two cuts from last year's debut puffette. The B-side 'covent garden' wraps a candied melody around a shoegaze haze that creeps in by the second half — likely to fly off shelves the way the LP did.

Lori Vambe — Drumgita Solo
Experimental / Minimalism / Tape Music 1982

Lori Vambe

Drumgita Solo

Zimbabwe-born, London-based percussionist Lori Vambe taught himself drums and co-founded The Healing Drums of Brixton. His invented instrument 'drumgita' (drum-guitar) opens fissures that feel previously non-existent yet still echo African drum traditions and minimalist landscapes. This is the first of two 1982 home recordings made by tape collage — a musique concrète document where tradition, modernity and the future advance together.

Jeff Parker ETA IVtet — Happy Today

Jeff Parker ETA IVtet

Happy Today

Jeff Parker's ETA IVtet, recorded live in August 2025 at LA's Lodge Room — a document made after their longtime residency at ETA shut down. The Parker family had been displaced for eight months by the Eaton Fire and Trump's return to power had piled on pressure for many, but after playing to a 400-person crowd Parker wanted to call this 'Happy Today': a quiet, joyful flicker of hope amid the murk.

Aki Onda — Nam June's Spirit Was Speaking To Me
Experimental / Sound Art 2017

Aki Onda

Nam June's Spirit Was Speaking To Me

Aki Onda's tribute to Nam June Paik. While in residence at the Nam June Paik Art Center in Korea in 2010, Onda picked up sounds on a handheld radio that felt like signals from Paik's spirit, and built a project around them. He went on to make field recordings in Seoul, Cologne, Wrocław and the US — broadcasts from an unknown elsewhere, kept nearly unedited, echoing Paik's ties to shamanic culture and the radio as conduit for hidden transmissions. Commissioned by documenta 14 in 2017 and broadcast on eight radio stations worldwide.
